Hurry up and wait. Rolled into Waterville at 230am, on the road again at 6 to get up to the Loaf. Intended shooting: US Alpine Champs slalom race. Actually shooting: US Ski Team wallyball. Interesting crowd and vibe...more editorial on that later maybe.
In the mean time, everyone's basically twiddling their thumbs waiting for the wind to chill out...

First day back on the real job full time since early January...yikes. That means the ski photography is officially over for the season.
As a result it's been a catching-up-on-paperwork and bills sort of afternoon.
The totals for the winter months are coming in though...I figure I've put about 9000 miles on my car since mid-December, as I've had 3 oil changes since then. (Of note, my car is currently suffering from a lit Check Engine light, a cracked windshield, a burt-out headlight, and a burnt-out brake light) Nearly 5000 of those miles (4953 to be precise) were driven to take pictures.
Speaking of pictures, my computer is currently whizzing away backing up this season's ski images to my external hard drive. The total number of ski pictures looks to be about 4550, which doesn't include the images that were deleted in-camera and never made it to the computer. For each alpine racing shot that made it to the computer, 2-3 were deleted in camera due to using the burst mode feature, so that tacks on another 2000 or so clicks of the shutter.
With all that, there should be plenty of pictures to post here for a while should I lack other material. Hopefully though I can come up with different things to put here because the skiing thing can get old.
Oddly enough, even after all that I'm craving more...I'd kill for an excuse (aka expense reimbursement from someone) to get up to Sugarloaf this week for US Alpine Champs. And I've already got my mind on next year. US XC Champs? NCAA's? Biathlon World Cup? All within the realm of possibility I think, and that's still only racing shots. The real work starts now to branch out...
...Not sure why, but I really like this one from the BKL Festival.
